How to Order Mixtape Songs: A Simple Tracklist Plan

A mixtape is a sequence, not just a collection. For short previews, a clear opening and ending matter more than trying to fit every favorite song into one disc.

Give the first track a job

Use a familiar or immediately engaging opener. A slow introduction can work, but listen to the actual preview rather than assuming it starts at the beginning of the full song. The first excerpt should invite the recipient to stay for the second.

Build one change in the middle

Try a gentle rise in energy, or move from a shared memory toward a new discovery. You do not need professional DJ transitions; these are separate previews, not a beat-matched mix. Avoid too many abrupt changes unless that contrast is part of the story.

Finish with intention

A closing song can resolve the mood, suggest a next meeting, or leave a small question. Remove a track if you cannot explain why it belongs. Use the arrow buttons to reorder your selections, then preview the finished CD before sharing. Six tracks with available 30-second previews make roughly a three-minute gift.

Questions before you start

Can I drag songs to reorder them?

Use the up and down buttons beside each selected song. They work with a keyboard as well as touch.

Does BurnCD mix or crossfade tracks?

No. It plays the available preview for each track in order. It is a personal listening gift, not DJ mixing software.
